Soap Making Classes are Scheduled for October
Back by popular demand! We were so happy to hear that you wanted more of our Beginning Soap Making Classes, that we are offering 2 beginner classes in October: Tuesday, October 12 and Wednesday, October 20.
Both October classes will be held right here in our shop at 175 Market Street in Portsmouth in the evening, from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. Come learn about the ingredients that go into handcrafted soap, the tools that are used and the right timing to pour your soap so that it sets properly. Classes will be taught by our knowledgeable friend Sarah, owner of Sarandipity Soap Company in South Berwick, Maine.
From what you learn, you will be taking home a loaf of soap, from which you will be able to carve six to eight bars, as well as the recipe to make more at home. Your freshly made bars will be ready to use in three to four weeks.

The Powers of Cinnamon and Clove:
Not Just for Mom’s Homemade Apple Pie!
Over 4,000 years ago, the ancient Egyptians were the first to discover the benefits of cinnamon — and it wasn’t to flavor pumpkin pie! Their component, eugenol, is anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, analgesic and antiseptic. As with all natural elements that you consider ingesting for your health, further personal investigation is needed. POSOCO Supports The NAN Project and Portsmouth’s Own Athenaeum
This season we are supporting two worthy organizations. We’d like to share some information about them in case you have some interest in getting involved, as well. The NAN Project “works to promote mental health awareness and suicide prevention programs for young people, using a peer-to-peer model.” We found this organization to be so thoughtful and well planned out, we encourage you to learn more about them at TheNANProject – Saving Lives and Healing Families. Named for a young woman who sadly took her own life, the organization visits schools and reaches out to young people in order to help them identify their needs and show them that help is available.
Close to home, the Portsmouth Athenaeum is “a non-profit membership library, gallery, and museum, incorporated in 1817 and located in the heart of historic Portsmouth, New Hampshire.” Donating our time and funds to maintain Portsmouth history is near and dear to our hearts! The Athenaeum houses an outstanding collection of documents and artifacts relating to local history. It also preserves what is surely the finest collection in the state of materials relating to the history of New Hampshire’s only major seaport.
