Good Clean Fun, Naturally!

The Portsmouth Soap Company started like so many other local businesses…as a small idea that blossomed. The idea, combined with a desire to be a valued asset to our community in a way that would enable us to nurture our love for the seacoast, led to the founding of the Portsmouth Soap Company. Our focus is to present you with high quality, healthy bath products that nourish your skin, are fun to use and are kind to our planet. We bring them to market in a unique setting that is fun to explore, providing creative solutions for your own home and for you to share with others.

Founding Family

As a nurse for 32 years, a mom and long time Girl Scout leader, I believe ingredients used in body products are important. Learning to make soaps from scratch, I became a believer in using quality ingredients to promote well-being for both body and mind. I became certified in soap making and joined the Handcrafter Soap Guild in 2019. I make many of the soap and bath products we sell and collaborate with other soap makers to ensure we have a great selection of healthy products. I continuously search for handmade items by local artisans that will appeal to our customers. It is one of the best parts of the job, for I sincerely believe collaboration brings inspiration and creativity to all.

My husband Ken’s business experience in finance, inventory and general contracting keeps the store fiscally healthy and its bottom line looking as good and functional as our store. My daughter Norah is usually one of the first testers of most of our bath products. She keeps me on point with social media, so we can keep you up to date on new products and what’s going on at the shop. My sister-in-law Alice is our marketing consultant who fine tunes messages, helps to update product information and brainstorms on new ideas.

Our designs, photography, product labeling, website, interiors and all aspects of our company are the result of local designers and artists who were chosen for their creative approach and helped to keep the flavor of Portsmouth in everything we do.

I can’t forget Logan! Our Aussie Labradoodle is the official tester of all things pup-related, including our Big Dawg Wash, Pet Balm and our newest pet shampoo bar. When he is not busy with his product testing chores, Logan can be seen chasing his ball at Hislop Park, his very own favorite place in Portsmouth.

I look forward to meeting you or seeing you again when you visit downtown Portsmouth. Please stop in!

Doing it well

As members of the Handcrafted Soap & Cosmetic Guild (HSCG), we learned that not only is it fun to make soap, but with quality ingredients - it’s great for your skin, too! This past year we have learned a lot through testing, creating and asking lots of questions. Together with a lot of help and collaboration with some amazing artisans, we are excited to share with you our uniquely handcrafted, high-quality bath and body products and accessories.

Giving Back

Doing good by doing well has always been our goal. Each quarter we are committed to donating a portion of our sales to a non-profit Seacoast organization which has inspired us with their great work – whether it’s protecting our children or those less fortunate, supporting our endangered animals and environment, or strengthening our arts/music. We hope you'll take a minute and check out these great organizations. We believe they will inspire you, too! Also let us know of an organization that is meaningful to you so we can consider them for our future giving.
